MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — The Muncie Police Department was investigating a homicide on the city’s east side.

A resident discovered a body in a yard in the 1500 block of East Washington Street on Wednesday morning. Police had previously been out to the area after neighbors reported shots fired around 3 a.m. but police didn’t find anything at the time.

Detectives working the case were interviewing witnesses that heard the shots fired. However, no one seemed to have witnessed the shooting.

His father has identified the victim as Scott Gilliam. Police have not made a formal announcement about his identity. Police said he did not have any identification on him.

The residence Gilliam’s body was found outside of is a multiple-tenant rental, according to police. They said they previously executed a drug raid on that building two years ago.

Neighbors say the home under investigation has surveillance cameras. It is unclear if police were able to pull any images off of the cameras.

So far, police have not named any possible suspects.
