Lawmakers to hear from pre-k advocates wanting to expand current state-funded program

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/AP) – Lawmakers will hear from pre-k advocates who want to expand the current state-funded preschool program.

The “Interim Study Committee on Fiscal Policy” has a hearing Wednesday and supporters of the expansion are scheduled to speak. Pre-k advocates will outline details of their policy agenda to expand access to high-quality pre-k for next year’s legislative session.

The request is part of the effort launched in August and led by key business and civil leaders wanting to expand high-quality pre-k so more low-income students can benefit.

The United Way of Central Indiana will also share their findings from a new report demonstrating the return on investment of pre-k in Indiana by researchers at Indiana University.

That meeting will be at 10 a.m. at the Indiana Statehouse.
