IMPD officer involved in head-on collision on southwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was involved in a head-on collision Thursday evening.

According to the Wayne Township Fire Department, the two-vehicle crash happened around 10 p.m. in the area of Raceway Road and Washington Street.

IMPD says the officer was headed north on Raceway Road when a vehicle going south on Raceway, driven by 52-year-old Anthony Weeden, crossed the center line, leading to the crash.

The IMPD officer was transported to the IU Health Methodist Hospital with minor injuries.

Weeden was in stable condition and was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital for treatment, according to Wayne Township Fire Department. 

Weeden was later arrested and faces a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. 

The crash remains under investigation.
