Rain doesn’t delay Polar Bear Pedal
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WISH) – Mayor Greg Ballard’s annual Polar Bear Pedal went rain or shine on Saturday but the event was mostly rain.
The Polar Pedal is one of three annual bicycle rides held in Indianapolis every year to throw a spotlight on the city’s extensive bicycle lanes. The bicycle ride was free and open to all ages, and everyone was required to wear a bicycle helmet.
Ballard was hoping to break last year’s Polar Bear Pedal’s attendance record, which had almost 1,100 cyclists.
The ride started at City Market and toured the Cultural Trail, New York St. and Michigan St. It also went to the Pleasant Run Greenway, Shelby St. Cycle Track, Fountain Square, IUPUI campus, and even Monument Circle.
All of the Polar Pedal participants had the opportunity to donate to Gleaners Food Bank, which helps to stock local food pantries for the harsh winter.
