‘Gr8 Comeback’: Shapiro’s thanks customers for support during pandemic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — It’s a restaurant that’s been owned and operated by one family for more than 100 years. Shaprio’s Delicatessen has been widely known as the place where you get the best sandwich in Indianapolis.

For 38 of those years, Ronda Gude has been a part of the restaurant and now serves as its Vice President of Operations of the downtown location.

“It’s like my family,” she said. “I love it. It’s been a great career.”

She described her relationship with the restaurant as a long-time “marriage.”

“The people,” Gude said. “People come in and every day it’s a new day. It’s always exciting.”

She took the time to thank Shapiro’s loyal customers for their continued support as the restaurant faced the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It has meant a lot for us,” Gude said. “Not only having and keeping jobs for us, keeping [us] open and also feeding the community. It’s been great for us to be able to do that.”

Besides sandwiches like the “Rueben” at Shapiro’s, Gude also recommends their “famous” macaroni and cheese, the carrot cake and strawberry cheesecake for dessert.
