Avon PD: Man dead, woman in critical condition after double shooting
AVON, Ind. (WISH) — A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after a double shooting in Avon.
Multiple units were near the intersection of Bluewood Way and Liatris Drive, in a neighborhood called The Settlement, on Monday afternoon.
Police at the scene said the investigation began around 2:45 p.m. when someone was traveling within the neighborhood to purchase a TV and noticed two bodies on the ground. Emergency responders arrived to discover a man and a woman.
The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was rushed to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to police, the man and woman were in a relationship. Officers were called to the Avon couple’s home last week. On Monday afternoon, police would not provide details on the nature of that earlier call.
Police say they found a gun on the deceased man; they believe he may have been the only shooter involved in the incident.
Detectives spent the evening executing a search warrant on the couple’s home.
24-Hour News 8 has learned that some of the residents in the community did not hear any gunshots.
“It is a quiet neighborhood; you don’t see this kind of stuff,” said Dave Hovermale, who lives a couple of houses down from the scene of the shooting.
The identities of the man and woman are being withheld. Detectives want to ensure next of kin has been identified before releasing more information.
