Gunman ties up family during home invasion
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Just around 3 a.m. Friday, an armed intruder slipped inside a house. The gunman walked through the hallways of the home in the 3100 block of Dequincy.
Once inside, he tied up a couple at gunpoint and then demanded cash. The family handed over a small amount of cash. The suspect then ransacked the house looking for valuables. After roaming the house, the gunman tip toed into the son’s room.
Once in the room the suspect pointed the gun at the boy, who pretended he was sleep. As the intruder moved through the room he kept the gun trained on the boy. He swiped a tablet computer in the room.
The family estimates the man took a small amount of cash, a ring, tablet and prescription pills.
“They feel scared right now, they don’t know if he was going to come around again,” said Emmanuel Palacios, who is related to the victims.
24-Hour News 8 learned that the victims don’t speak English, so Palacios translated the conversation for us in the family’s living room.
When the suspect left the home, the family didn’t hear anything that sounded like a vehicle starting up, which makes the family believe the suspect may live near the area. The family says there are no signs of forced entry, and they believe the suspect used a device to slip in through a side door.
“Nothing was forced, maybe he used some special tool to open the door, something like that,” said Palacios.
The police say neighbors called 911 when one of the victims ran next door for help.
