IMPD investigating after woman struck, killed by vehicle
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IMPD is investigating a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian.
It happened just after 6:30 p.m. Friday on Holt Road, just north of Sam Jones Expressway.
Police say a female was walking in the grassy area on the side of Holt road when an SUV went off the road, hit the woman and then kept driving.
“We don’t have any skid marks. We just have tire marks in the grass,” said Major Richard Riddle.
Major Riddle said the force of impact was so strong it sent the woman’s belongings over the wall of Stout Field.
Police are still working to determine a make and model of the car involved, but witnesses say it was a silver SUV. Police said it should have damage in the front of the car and on the passenger side.
“We do not think it is an intentional act. Probably a tragic, tragic accident; however because the driver didn’t stop, that turns it into a criminal incident,” said Major Riddle.
The crash happened before sunset and on a busy road, so police are working with several witnesses.
Police are asking anyone else who may have information to contact them or call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
