INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – A school district in Fishers has received a major designation from the U.S. Department of Education. Hamilton Southeastern Schools is one of 55 recipients of the 2020 Green Ribbon Schools award.

The Indiana Department of Education says the Green Ribbon Schools award recognizes districts that are exemplary in reducing environmental impact and costs, improving the health and wellness of students and staff, and providing effective environmental and sustainability education.

“Preparing children for a successful future means teaching lessons both inside and outside the classroom,” said State Superintendent Dr. Jennifer McCormick. “I congratulate Hamilton Southeastern Schools for creating an atmosphere stressing the importance of personal and external sustainability through physical wellbeing and environmental care and concern.”

The award is part of a larger U.S. Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about proven practices resulting in improved student engagement, higher academic achievement, graduation rates and workforce preparedness. The award also aims to increase energy independence and economic security.
