New rehab hospital planned for Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Community Health Network in Indianapolis is partnering with Louisville-based Kindred Healthcare LLC to establish a third inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the Indianapolis area. The health systems have formed a joint venture to build and operate the 40-bed, 50,000-square-foot facility on the west side of Indy, which will focus on acute rehabilitation for a variety of conditions and injuries.

Financial details of the investment in the new hospital were not immediately disclosed. It is also unclear how many jobs will be created as a result.

Kindred and Community say the treatment offered at the hospital will support people who suffer from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, multiple trauma, amputation and other injuries or disorders.

The two-story facility will feature large, multidisciplinary gyms with a variety of therapeutic technologies such as augmented reality balance training, therapy bionics and a full-body exoskeleton. 

“As we consider the needs of patients and how we can best align our resources to meet those needs, we realized patient-focused, specialized rehabilitation services in our west region made sense,” said Community Chief Operating Officer Jason Fahrlander. “Our goal in everything we do is to deliver exceptional care where and when patients need it. We are happy to have a partnership that allows us to build on that promise in the Indianapolis market.”

Kindred and Community Health currently operate the Community Rehabilitation Hospital North on the northeast side of Indianapolis and Community Rehabilitation Hospital South in Greenwood.
