JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One man is dead following a crash in Johnson County, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the fatal crash happened in the 5700 block of South U.S. 31 in Franklin at approximately 6 a.m.

A 50-year-old man, Matthew Frye, on a moped was killed while traveling south on U.S. 31 near State Road 252. The moped was hit from behind by a 2010 Ford Focus driven by a 24-year-old Dillan Martin.

Martin told deputies that he was in the right lane behind another vehicle as the vehicle changed to the left lane.

Deputies say it’s not known if the driver in front of Martin saw the moded and if that was the reason for the lane switch. However, Martin didn’t see the moped and struck it, according to deputies.

Frye was pronounced dead on the scene.

Martin has been cooperative with investigators. Both speed and alcohol have been ruled out as factors for the deadly crash.
