Indianapolis Youth Orchestra performs for first time with new name

Youth orchestra hits stage with new name

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Youth Orchestra took the stage for the first time under its new name Sunday night.

Formerly known as the New World Youth Orchestras, it changed its name to honor its connection to Indianapolis and the legacy on which it was built.

The orchestra is currently under Artistic Director Adam Bodony, the second conductor in the ensemble’s history.

The ensemble of over 200 young musicians performed Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor “From the New World.”

“In order for us to just show more unity with the community around us, we need to just show that we are really a part of the city itself. That is why we are now the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra,” said Concert Master Justin Kinchen.

The concert was held at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in downtown Indianapolis.
