Staff member at Hancock Co. Jail tests positive for COVID-19

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A staff member at the Hancock County Jail has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said the worker was alerted on March 8 that they had been notified by an acquaintance that the acquaintance had tested positive.

The jail staffer had a “mild cough,” according to the sheriff’s office. After reporting the info, the staff member was sent home.

A subsequent test came back positive. The staff member is at home in self-quarantine.

Jail officials say the staffer was not in contact with any inmates on March 8, but two other staffers who were in contact are now in self-quarantine. The sheriff’s office says those people are not showing any symptoms.
