Pilot killed in plane crash near Richmond

RICHMOND, Ind. (WISH) — A man is dead after the plane he was flying crashed near the Richmond Municipal Airport Sunday morning, Indiana State Police confirmed.

Judson Costlow, 78, of Richmond was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner, ISP said in a release to News 8.

State police said Costlow was flying to Arizona to visit family and was alone at the time of the crash. There were no other injuries reported from the crash.

Investigators said Wayne County Dispatch received 911 calls reporting a small plane had crashed near the airport. Firefighters from the Richmond Fire Department and the Boston Fire Department helped put out the fire.

The National Transportation Safety Board said in a tweet the plane was an Aeropro CZ A240.

ISP said the crash scene and the investigation has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
