Fishers ‘pool prodigy’ getting national attention
FISHERS, Ind (WISH) – A year ago, a central Indiana teen decided to try trick pool shots. Now, his videos have millions of views, and he’s being invited to network TV shows.
While some are focused on grades, college or relationships, Fishers High School student Matthew Webber has his eye on the eight ball.
“A lot of people in this school know,” Webber said. “Not a lot though, but they all like what I’m doing and they’re really surprised, and they like watching me and things like that.”
A lot of others like to watch as well. His videos have millions of hits.
Those numbers that caught the eye of talk show host Steve Harvey. On Wednesday, the 14-year-old, nicknamed “The Stinger,” was part of Harvey’s program.
“It’s a show that me and my family always watch,” Webber said. “So I never thought I’d be on it.”
Webber has only been doing trick shots for a year. It’s a hobby he started after his father showed him a video.
“I just started doing them because I was bored in my basement and then eventually I got really good at them,” Webber said.
If you’re into this type of stuff, and maybe one day ending up on the Steve Harvey Show yourself, Webber says the best thing you can do is go online and watch videos and practice.
“On school nights I probably practice one to two hours, after homework and chores, of course,” Webber said. “But over the weekend, probably three to four, if I’m not at a friend’s house.”
Webber doesn’t plan to stop. He has sponsors and plans to enter trick competitions. It’s a hobby that might fill his pockets with more than just eight balls.
“I had no idea, I was just doing it back then for fun, just do it, because I’m bored, and now it could be something that I do for the rest of my life,” Webber said.
Webber’s TV show run isn’t over yet. He filmed more shows last week in Hollywood.
He wasn’t able to talk about them, but he says it will be aired sometime soon.
