1 dead, 1 injured in shooting outside Camby restaurant

CAMBY, Ind. (WISH) — A man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting that resulted from a domestic dispute at a shopping plaza in Camby on Monday, according to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office.

The fatal shooting happened in the parking lot of Rancho Grande restaurant in the 8300 block of Windfall Lane around 5:30 p.m. Police say they are investigating the incident as an attempted murder followed by a suicide.

An O’Charley’s, Bob Evans, Starbucks, McDonald’s and several other restaurants and stores are in the area.

According to police in Hendricks County, the man and woman involved in the shooting were a married couple, but did have a “no contact order” between them. The husband was been identified as 60-year-old Thomas Himes, from Indianapolis.

Police say the two agreed to meet in the parking lot. It was at that time an argument broke out between the couple.  Police think the argument may have been about the wife’s vehicle and a pending criminal case of domestic violence.

During the argument police say Thomas took out a pistol and shot his wife. Witnesses say that Thomas exited the car and walked to the front of the vehicle and fatally shot himself.

The woman was shot in the leg and the head. She was rushed to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. She is in stable condition and is cooperating with police.

Police did confirm that the couple had a history of domestic issues.
