Annual Mass Ave sidewalk sale hopes to drive business to stores struggling from pandemic shutdown

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Shoppers hoping to get good deals on summer items will have their chance on Saturday during the third annual MassAvely Different Sidewalk Sale.

A total of 24 businesses that call the historic street ‘home’ are taking part in the event, which is hosted by the Mass Ave Merchants’ Association (MAMA).

“We want people to know that Mass Ave is open. It may be slower, but it is open and businesses want to see you,” said Chantel Stone Coordinator with the MAMA.

Stone says the association stayed involved with stores during the pandemic to help owners pivot to more online shopping and curbside pick up.

While this is the third end of summer sidewalk sale, this year will look different.

“The street is still closed off to cars. It’s safe and it is mostly outdoors,” said Stone.

Participating businesses will have tables outside their store fronts full of deals and specials on items.

“We have some candles that were made to order by people that never came to pick them up, they still smell so good,” said Alexander McCormick with Penn & Beech.

The candle store on College Avenue will be offering select items at 50% off.

Down the block at Moonshot Games, who opened their Mass Ave location in July, owner Jayson Manship says business has been good during the pandemic but he’s still looking forward to the sale.

“We are not allowed to discount certain brands as an advertised discount, but this table isn’t advertised. So you will see a lot of popular games at very cheap prices,” said Manship.

Shoppers can also stop by the Old National Centre on Saturday from 11am – 7 pm for live music, food trucks, and fun for the whole family.
