Perry Township Schools cuts ties with superintendent
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Perry Township School District is beginning its search for a new superintendent.
The school board voted Monday night to part ways with Superintendent Dr. Thomas Little.
The board then posted a message on Facebook after the meeting saying in part: “Because this is a confidential personnel matter, we cannot go into further detail.”
Little had been with the district for nine years. In September 2016 the board approved medical leave for Little. One month later Little published an article in the Southsider Voice announcing he had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. Little described the syndrome as a rare illness that attacks the nerve endings that connect muscles to your limbs.
Dr. Little had two years left on his contract. The district said it will be paying Little $325,000 in either a lump sum or scheduled payments.
In the Facebook post on the district’s page the board also said “the board is grateful for Dr. Little’s nine years of service. His contributions and accomplishments within the district are valued and appreciated, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
The board says it will now look forward to elementary classroom renovations and the grand openings of four new kindergarten academies.
