eGaming gains popularity at Indy PopCon
Picture this: over 90 special guests, a live podcast stage, interactive gaming exhibits, and special programming for kids of all ages. What more could a gaming fan ask for from this year’s Indy PopCon?! The fun takes place from June 17 through June 19 at the Indiana Convention Center. Here are a few facts about the event:
• In 2014, Indy PopCon welcomed roughly 9,000 attendees during its inaugural year. Last year, the popular culture and comic convention grew to roughly 24,000 attendees with an economic impact of five million dollars.
• This year, Indy PopCon will be hosting an eSports Gaming tournament in its brand new GFUEL ESports Arena (located at PanAm Plaza – a 60,000 square foot venue dedicated to gaming). The GFUEL eSports Arena seats over 1,200 excited gaming fans as they watch tournaments and live gaming action take place on stage.
• Locally owned eBash Game Center is bringing over 200 PCs and game consoles to this year’s Indy PopCon and running several tournaments where any fans can walk in and challenge each other.
• One of the most popular eGames right now is Rocket League – a futuristic Sports-Action game, in which players are equipped with booster-rigged vehicles for a high-octane re-imagining of soccer. This will be one of the games featured in the PopCon GFUEL Sports Arena, as well as available for attendees to try out for themselves throughout the weekend.
