Meet the Artists Gala Fashion Show

Art, music, fashion… and so much more!

Celebrate and view the works of locally prominent African American artists during one of Indianapolis’ premier cultural events- “Meet the Artists XXXII,” from January 29 – March 29 at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street. This year’s showcase will promote the theme, “Afrofuturism,” and highlight the works of 19 visual artists along with several youth artists throughout the many areas of Central Library.

Fashion Coordinator Nikki Blaine and Meet the Artists’ Tony Radford share the details and show us some of this year’s fashion trends. Here’s more:

Meet the Artists XXXII at Central Library!

Nineteen artists, all making their “Meet the Artists” debut, will present works representing various artistic mediums. These include Boxx the Artist (acrylic), Cierra Johnson (acrylic, mixed media), Ellis Morris (acrylic, oil), Felecia Wellington (mixed media), Jamichael Pollard (Kyng) (acrylic, pen art), John Covington (acrylic), Kamali L. Dodson (acrylic, mixed media), Lance C. Parker of Illuminate Hue Media (photography), Micah Wilson (digital art, pen & ink), Phillip Paul Johnson (acrylic), Phyllicia Carr (acrylic), Shamira Wilson (mixed media), Stewart Wayne (acrylic), S. Camille Peters (photography, mixed media), Trevonne Davis (photography), Dara D’signz Radford (mixed media bottles), Tamara Harris (jewelry), Tony L. Arrington (mixed media), and Nicole MaGee (sculpture).

Exhibiting youth artists are Chayse Showley (mixed media), Saydarah (mixed media), Jalen Foster (mixed media sculpture), and the Vanguard Collegiate of Indianapolis Middle School (reclaimed project). The entire community is invited to mingle with the artists and enjoy an evening of cultural entertainment during the “Meet the Artists XXXII Gala Reception” on Saturday, February 8 from 5:30 – 10 p.m. at Central Library. The Gala, highlighted by an appearance by the Indiana Fever’s Tamika Catchings, will feature music, spoken word performances, the popular fashion show, author appearances, activities for children and families, a food vendor, and more.

The public also is invited to the “Meet the Artists XXXII 4th Friday Celebration” on Friday, March 27 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Central Library. The event will include tours of the “Meet the Artists” exhibit, painting demonstrations, programs presented by participating artists, and more.

“Meet the Artists XXXII” is made possible by the Christel DeHaan Family Foundation and Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation. It is presented by the Library’s African American History Committee in support of the Center for Black Literature & Culture at Central Library.
