Did you know Indiana has the 12th highest adult obesity rate in the nation?

The 15th annual Walk from Obesity takes place Saturday, September 29 at Fairbanks Hall (340 W. 10th St.) along the canal with check-in beginning at 8 a.m.

The Walk from Obesity aims to raise awareness of this growing epidemic and the need for increased access to treatment. To register for the walk or make a donation, visit www.walkfromobesity.com

Mindy Mayes, who has completed the bariatric program at IU Health North, is now a fitness instructor and will lead participants in a fun dance warmup on the morning of the walk. IU Health Registered Dietitian Katie Hake previews the event and discusses the IU Health bariatric program, which offers a customized approach to surgical weight loss. Unless there is a medical reason not to do so, all bariatric surgeries at IU Health are performed laparoscopically, which means that several small incisions are made instead of one large incision, meaning less pain and a faster recovery.
