Hendricks County Rib Fest

It’s a decade-old event that’s ready for you to feast and indulge! The Hendricks County Rib Fest kicks off June 25, and this year, crews are adding hot air balloons to the big day. Here’s everything you need to know:ABOUT RIB FEST:

The event, sponsored by the Avon Chamber of Commerce, will add a balloon glow and tethered balloon rides as well as an interesting change to its Rib Run to an already stellar lineup. In addition to the new activities, Rib-fest will showcase samplings of some of the area’s best ribs as well as other food, children’s games, live music and the second year of the 5K Rib Run and Fun Run as well as a kid’s version called the ¼ Slab Rib Run. The festival kicks off at 4 p.m. June 25 at Kingsway Christian Church, 7981 E. County Road 100 North in Avon, and concludes with fireworks after dusk.

The new quirk in this year’s Rib Run allows participants to enter a new division called the Sloppy Rib Run where they can shave 20 seconds of their total time for every rib they consume during the race. They can consume up to 5 ribs every kilometer or 25 ribs total during the race. The 5K Rib Run will begin at 6:30 p.m., and spots to participate still remain. The kids version begins at 6 p.m. To register, go online to www.AvonChamber.org and click on the “Rib-Fest & Balloon Glow” button. Organizers expect 7-8 local rib vendors including favorites such as Pit Stop BBQ & Grill, O’hana Hawaiian BBQ and Judge’s Bar-B-Que. In addition, local non-profit groups will offer desserts and other treats.

Admission is free. However, a $5 parking fee will be charged, and all food must be purchased. Tickets for the tethered hot air balloon rides must be purchased in advance of the event. Other activities during this family-friendly event include the Pacers Fan Van, awards for the best ribs and sauce and the fireworks show after dark.
