Artists challenged to create ‘Comic Book in a Day’ at this weekend’s virtual event

The Comic Book in a Day event is going virtual! Aili McGill, executive director of Nickel Plate Arts and Stuart Sayger, comic artist, joined us today to share what you can expect at the event and talk about some of the unique opportunities Sayger has had in his career.

This year’s event will be on Saturday, August 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Nickel Plate Arts is partnering with the Hamilton East Public Library Ignite Studio in Fishers.

This year’s event will be entirely virtual via Zoom.

Challenge artists will have 8 hours to create a complete comic story from scratch.

Featured professional artists will mentor the challenge artists throughout the day.

Nickel Plate Arts and Hamilton East Public Library will go live on Facebook Live throughout the day for progress updates, interviews with artist, and discussions about current best practices in comics.

Stuart Sayger is one of the featured artists.

He has recently designed covers for a series of KISS comics, Transformers, The Joker, The Walking Dead, G.I. Joe, and many more.

He will be one of the mentors for the artists. He’ll also be leading a workshop on Wednesday, August 26 called “Dynamic Depth of Field,” where he will provide tips for comic book inking, focusing on light and shadow techniques.
