Brickyard Cup Trophy: Honoring racing tradition at IMS

The Brickyard Cup Trophy, made to honor each winner of the Brickyard 400 race, features the winners’ names inscribed on “bricks” at the base. This trophy is akin to the Brickyard’s version of the Borg-Warner Trophy, symbolizing the race’s rich history.

Initially known as the PPG Cup, the trophy was sponsored by PPG, the presenting sponsor of the Brickyard 400, from 1994 to 2000. The trophy hasn’t updated since Kevin Harvick’s victory in the Brickyard 400 in 2020. This summer, the trophy was updated to honor the three road course winners at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS).

Doug Boles, President of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, joined us in sharing these updates. The Brickyard Cup Trophy and the new winner’s trophy both celebrate the long-standing tradition and history of the Brickyard 400, offering race fans a deeper connection to this prestigious event.

Once renovations are complete, the Brickyard Cup Trophy will be displayed in the IMS Museum, allowing fans to appreciate its history and significance.

Another exciting update for fans this weekend is the winner’s trophy. Traditionally, the Brickyard 400 winner received a silver brick on a pedestal, which quickly became an iconic symbol in motorsports. This tradition has been revived with a more personal touch. This year’s Brickyard 400 winner will receive a brick on a pedestal, but instead of a polished brick, it will be molded after an actual IMS brick.

For race fans, these updates not only honor past winners but also enhance the legacy of the Brickyard 400, making this weekend’s race even more special.
