How to use Matcha Green Tea

  1. What is matcha:

While Matcha Green Tea has been used many years in Asia, it has now gone mainstream in the U.S. and it is popping up everywhere. Matcha is a high-quality green tea that where the leaves are steamed and crushed into a powder that you actually consume in beverages and foods. One study showed how Matcha Green Tea contain 3 times more ECGC-a beneficial polyphenol antioxidant-compared to regular green tea.

  1. My favorite ways to use matcha are to drink it, either in just a hot matcha tea or in a matcha latte. Iced matcha lattes are delicious in the warm weather. Matcha is lower in caffeine that coffee, making it an enjoyable afternoon drink with nutritional benefits.
  2. We’re seeing matcha everywhere now, even at mainstream grocery stores and with mainstream brands.

A really convenient way to enjoy matcha is with green tea bags that contain matcha.

There are even facial wipes that contain matcha.

You can also buy culinary matcha and use it in recipes like chocolate truffles.

Matcha still contains caffeine. So don’t drink it too close to bedtime and stick to just one cup per day.Iced Matcha LatteBy Michelle Dudash, RDN

Heat 3 ounces water, or 1/3 cup, to just under a simmer. Place 1 heaping teaspoon of pre-sifted matcha into a bowl or glass. Pour in the hot water and whisk until smooth. Allow to cool for a few minutes. Add 1/2 cup milk, a dot of honey, if you wish, and crushed ice.
