Local company takes guesswork out of beer consumption

For beer lovers, it’s a bit frustrating to walk into your local bar and see your favorite beer on tap, only to be told it’s out of stock. Did you know that most bars/restaurants serving draft beer are measuring kegs and inventory the same way they have done for decades – by “shaking the keg” to see if it’s empty?! Steve Hershberger, CEO of SteadyServ Technologies, says this leaves beer drinkers frustrated when beer runs out, and wastes hundreds of thousands of dollars of unused beer for the establishment owners.

Today on Indy Style, Steve explains how SteadyServ developed a solution for the draft beer industry, so that retailers know real-time consumption data and can manage their inventory based on what they know to be true, vs. guesswork.

Here’s how it works:

SteadyServ solution includes a SmartScale (hardware) that sits on the bottom of each tapped keg, which collects data as beer is consumed and sends it to the cloud via a wireless gateway by the kegs. The data is then sent to the bar owners smartphone and presented in the SteadyServ app. As data is collected, bar owners, distributors, and even brewers will be able to see which type of beer sells best given time of day, season or even during which sporting event – giving them the ability to brew, order and sell what beer drinkers actually want.
